Avocado And Grapefruit Bacon Salad

Being summer its good to have lighter healthy
meals and this is just a classic summer salad

Ingredients:

¼ cup of nonfat plain yogurt.

2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard.

1 tablespoon of honey.

2 grapefruits, sliced in half across segments.

1 ripe avocado, peeled and seeded and sliced.

6 rashers bacon crispy baked

½ small head of red lettuce.

Preparation Instructions:

For make the dressing, combine the yogurt, Dijon mustard and honey in a bowl.

To prepare the grapefruits, using a serrated knife, cut around the grapefruit between the peel and fruit, making sure the knife touches the base of the fruit. Remove fruit and slice into 2-inch pieces.

Add the grapefruit and avocado to the bowl with the dressing and toss.

Cut Bacon into bits add to grapefruit and Avocado

Wash and dry the lettuce and place on a serving platter.

Spoon grapefruit and avocado / Bacon mixture on lettuce.

Enjoy goes down well as a starter or a salad really fresh and summery tastes

 Rather than albino, the young hippo is actually leucitic - it has some pigmented spots, especially along its back and head, and has dark eyes whereas albino animals have blue eyes. Usually, animals with these conditions don’t survive since they’re easily spotted by predators.

This one is young, but the photographers report that it is also quite shy, keeping close to its mother. And mother hippos are known for being extremely protective. I think this little one is safe for now.

The Burrard-Lucas brothers state, “Being an animal that is so strikingly different often results in a hard life; these creatures frequently become outcasts, rejected by their conventionally colored peers. In this case however, we were relieved to note that the other hippos seemed to be treating the pink hippo just like any other.”

Boerewors Champion

Johannesburg - Jaco Labuschagne, 13, from Boksburg became the youngest participant ever to win the Shoprite Checkers boerewors competition on Saturday.

Jaco beat ten other finalists to walk away with, among other things, a brand-new Toyota Hilux double-cab bakkie.

The final round was held at Sun City.

Dorothy Labuschagne, Jaco's mother, said when they discussed the grand prize before the competition, Jaco said: "Dad can have the bakkie, as long as he takes me fishing in it."

Dorothy said her family often go fishing at the Bloemhof Dam and at Shelly Beach, and then of course they often braai.

Lappies Labuschagne jumped up and down with excitement and joy when his son was named winner. Jaco himself was in tears.

Both his parents are district managers at Shoprite meat markets. Dorothy said she and her husband have been taking part in the boerewors competition for ten years, but never managed to win.

"Then Jaco enters for the first time and he's the winner!"

Dorothy said she wasn't able to take part in the first round of the competition this year, so her husband and Jaco made a "father-and-son-day" of it. According to her, both Jaco and his 10-year-old brother Eric love to braai.

"My husband always says if he could braai eight times a week he would be a very happy man. We usually braai about three times a week."

Regarding his winning boerewors recipe, Jaco said: "A-grade meat, salt and pepper, and the rest is my secret."

But he'll have to divulge his secret now, since Shoprite Checkers will be using it for the rest of the year. Jaco's boerewors will be available from October 14.

He is a Grade 7 pupil at Concordia Primary School and will be going to Dr EG Jansen High School next year. And what does he want to become one day? "Definitely not a butcher!" his mother said.

"He wants to be a professional cricketer."

AB de Villiers is Jaco's hero.

Jaco beat 1 185 other participants from across the country to walk away with the crown.

An old but great lesson in life worth reposting

The Mayonnaise Jar

When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle,

When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,

Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class

And had some items in front of him.

When the class began, wordlessly,

He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar

and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.


He then asked the students, if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured

them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.

The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.


He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.

Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided,

'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things - family,

children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions -

Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else --The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' He continued,

'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,

You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So...
Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Play With your children.

Take time to get medical checkups.

Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

'Take care of the golf balls first --

The things that really matter.

Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.
'I'm glad you asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,

there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'
